Magazine Image Transfer - Part 2

Here are more of my experiments with packaging tape over stencils over magazine pictures, per Journal Arista's "Mixed Media Stencil Packing Tape Transfer" You Tube. ( I neglected to mention in my earlier post that I vigorously burnished over the stencil, then flipped it over to burnish the back of the magazine picture so I could get a good contact with the clear packing tape.)

HOUSEHOLD TIP:  It took Soft Scrub with Bleach and a non-abrasive green scrubbie pad to get the accidental image transfer off of my Formica counter top.  (See 1st posting on this topic.)  This also works on ink from cash register receipts left on a wet counter top.

Magazine Image Transfer - Part 1

For the past two days I have been soaking up mixed media ideas, getting glued to the You Tube to the point of feeling light-headed.  There are so many ideas which I want to try.  Today's experiment was inspired by Journal Arista's "Mixed Media Stencil Packing Tape Transfer," which I highly recommend viewing for oneself.

The presenter did mention not to use stencils with small parts, and yes, it was difficult removing the packing tape from most of the stencils I used.  After soaking in warm water, the paper backings sometimes came off almost intact, but usually I had to scrub the paper off to get see-through transfers.  These "skins" can be used over inked or painted backgrounds on journal pages or other collage pieces.

(I realized I should have photographed the magazine pictures before I started, but- oh well, too late.)

This was a fun experiment.  Would I try it again?  Maybe...   Now- to use the results on a project!!!

A Sweet Heart

As Valentine's Day approaches, inspiration hit with time to spare.  After painting some old book text with orange and red acrylic paints, I cut out a heart shape.  Burgundy paint was used along the edges.

The background was pink acrylic paint spread around on the Gelli Plate printer.  When dry, I over stamped in pink ink with a botanical roller.  This pretty much disappeared.

Next, I stamped "Follow Your Art" with black ink in the center of the heart, finishing with a smear of gold acrylic paint.  After adhering the reddish heart to the pink background, I stamped the four corners of the post card with a hearts silhouettes rubber stamp design.

Another stamped saying fit in the lower left corner, and some typed-out words were applied near the top left.  I added a whimsical rubber stamp design to the top right corner, some gold paint pen dots along one edge of the heart,  and called it quits. Rather easy, and fun!

Messy Art

Sometimes we plan out the process and the medium, sometimes the medium determines the outcome. These acrylic paint backgrounds- bubbles, streaks and waves- were a complete surprise.  I neglected to mention- the technique is "smooshing"or spreading the paint with a roller on a Gelli Plate, then pressing the paper into it.  "Art?" Hmmmmmm

Would I try this again?  Definitely!!!

Add Some Layers

The teal green envelopes with "creamy dreamy" acrylic overwashes needed something, so today I had another Gelli Plate Printing session.  I added a layer of paint with stencils, and gold rubber stamp images after the paint dried

.Now, that's a little more interesting!

Let It Snow?

Today brought flurries, snow showers and then- the serious accumulation:  fat fluffy flakes with an agenda.  This is the rhododendron outside my window.  Just getting dark and it's still snowing!
