Deerly Unwanted - They're Back!!!

The three young deer visited late last night.  Today at dusk two showed up under the feeders.  After doing some research I realized that having wild deer become tame and dependent is NOT good for them, or for the humans.

I've been bringing in the "fly-through" open-sided feeder before dark, and today I shoveled snow over the fallen seeds beneath the feeders.

Yum Yum, Lunch Box!

So instead of tip-toeing to the window to watch for a while, I went out to the back porch to "shoo shoo!" the deer away.

One ran toward the woods on the left.  The other just stood there looking at me!

Should I stay or should I go???
Does she really mean "SHOO!!?"

Finally it caught on that it was not good to stick around, so it bounded up the hill and out of sight.  Time will tell if they come back tomorrow!

DEER, DEER!

Getting dark, bring your own light

Last night there was a visitation at the bird feeders.  For some reason this back yard is a favored spot for browsing.  I love to watch the deer, so graceful yet watchful as they graze.  The lower part of the rhododendron bush has been neatly stripped of most of its leaves and the Vinca Vine/Periwinkle has been dug up and consumed.  I just hope those graceful quadrupeds move on before Spring planting so the veggie garden survives.  (One can hope???)

I can already imagine the sign on a tree:  This way to Salad Bar.  Shudder...

There's my pesky brother, he follows me everywhere!

Hey, watcha' got good over there?

Buzz off Kid!

I'm tellin' Ma!

Okay, but don't eat it all!  Do you get
the feeling something is watching us???

LOCAL WINTERFEST SNOW SCULPTURE

In order to see every entry in the Annual Winterfest Snow Sculpture contest one must drive all over the back streets and up and down main street.  I happened to drive by this one today and just had to stop to take a picture.  At about 6 - 7 feet tall, it is even more impressive in person, the camera could not capture the depth of the carvings.

Temperatures in the 20's mean that it will probably last a few days at least.

An Appetizing Apple Pie - Finally!

After decades of tryng to make a decent-looking apple pie, I finally did!  (The picture doesn't do it justice...)  Looks good, smells good, let's hope it tastes good as well...

The imperfect crust and cross-cut venting was intentional.  Sort of?

ABOVE MY COMPUTER STAND

Every artist should have at least ONE tiny bit of organization, a space that is pleasant to look at!

Okay, to be quite honest, I just set up this photo-op.  But it's a start?
