Orange Crown Imperial

This was an early bloomer, opening right after Easter.  

I had walked by it for several days when it occurred to me 

to tilt up one of the blossoms and look inside.
What I discovered amazed me.
It was a breezy day and I had no hopes of getting a clear focus.
I had to get "underneath" the plant 

to photograph upward, which was fun.  

At least I was able to get back up!
